New York Giants to sign kicker Chandler Catanzaro

The New York Giants were in the market for a kicker and then, in an instant, they weren’t.

Following a June 15 arrest for a hit-and-run followed by three subsequent chargers, word leaked on Sunday that the Giants would release veteran kicker Aldrick Rosas.

Although the team did not necessarily need to rush to replace Rosas given that the preseason has been canceled and practices are not expected to take place for several weeks, the Giants forged full-speed ahead anyway.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Giants will sign former New York Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro.

Catanzaro originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Clemson following the 2014 NFL Draft and remained with the team through the 2016 season.

In 2017, Catanzaro spent a year with the Jets before playing with both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers in 2018.

Catanzaro returned to the Jets briefly in 2019, but announced his retirement five months after signing. He remained on the team’s reserve/left squad until being released earlier this week.

In 77 career games, Catanzaro has connected on 83.8% of his field-goal attempts and 92.9% of his point-after attempts.
